19 MAY, IS A TURNING POINT IN TURKISH HISTORY
May 19, 1919 is a turning point
in the history of Turkish nation. Mustafa Kemal and a handful of his friend had
arrived at Samsun in May 19, 1919. This date is teh beginning of Turkish
national war.
To well understand the
importance of this date, it is enough and necessary to examine the conditions
of the country in those days.
Mustafa Kemal Atatürk tells that
process like below in his well known book “Speech”:
“
It may be that, by violence and trickery, all the fortresses of
your beloved fatherland may be captured, all its shipyards occupied, all its
armies dispersed and every corner of the country invaded. And sadder and graver
than all these circumstances, thos e who hold power within the country may be
in error, misguided and may even be traitors. Furthermore, they may identify
personal interests with the political designs of the invaders. The country may
be
impoverished, ruined and exhausted.
“
Here the first step done after
Bandirma ship had arrived Samsun is the beginning of a rearing up which will
end that terrible situation.
19 May, therefore is a huge
bairam..
19 MAYIS TÜRK TARİHİNDE BİR DÖNÜM NOKTASIDIR
19 Mayıs 1919, Türk ulusunun
tarihinde bir dönüm noktasıdır.
Mustafa Kemal ve bir avuç
arkadaşı bu tarihte Samsun’a ayak barak ulusal kurtuluş savaşını başlatmıştır.
Bu tarihin önemini anlamak için
o sıralardaki ülke koşullarını gözönüne getirmek yeterli olacaktır. Mustafa
Kemal Nutuk’ta o günleri şöyle anlatır:
“
Zorla ve aldatıcı
düzenlerle sevgili yurdunun bütün kaleleri alınmış, bütün gemilikleri ele
geçirilmiş, bütün orduları dağıtılmış ve yurdun her köşesine düşman
girmiş olabilir. Bütün bu koşullardan daha acıklı ve korkunç olmak üzere,
yurdunda, iş başında bulunanlar, aymazlık ve sapkınlık içinde
olabilirler. Üstelik, hainlik de yapabilirler. Daha kötüsü, iş başında
bulunan kişiler, kendi çıkarlarını, yurduna girmiş olan düşmanların
siyasal erekleriyle birleştirebilirler. Ulus, yoksulluk ve sıkıntı içinde
ezgin ve bitkin düşmüş olabilir.
“
İşte Bandırma vapuruyla varılan
Samsun’da atılan ilk adım bu korkunç tabloyu sona erdirecek bir şahlanışın
başlangıcıdır.
O gün bir bayramdır.
